Megan Carvajal is the Executive Director of The Blue Bench, the Denver Metro Area’s comprehensive sexual assault prevention and support center, and an organization to which I have given money for many years. If you’d like to give money yourself, you can do that through this link.
On this week’s episode, we discuss how Megan got involved with The Blue Bench, the origins of the organization, the work it does ranging from prevention programs with kids to advocacy and support for survivors, and everything else you come to expect from this show. But we also talk about the culture writ large as we dive into unpacking issues like consent (which is not the absence of a “no” but rather the presence of an enthusiastic “yes!”), the privatization of the social safety net, and the double-edged sword that is privilege. Yes, privilege can be used for good, and it’s fascinating how it works. As heavy as those topics can be, Megan and I hit it off right away, establish an easy rapport, take a few detours and ultimately have a terrific conversation.
