Mark Berzins is the Lead Dog at Little Pub Company, the largest independent pub and restaurant company in the state, under whose umbrella are several establishments I’ve spent a great deal of time in. Shoutout to The Spot, which was, well, my spot when I lived in West Wash Park, and the College Inn, which is right near both my house and my wife’s work.
When you’ve spent your life behind the bar, you have a front row seat to the relationship struggles of young people both as customers, and your staff. As his oldest daughter shoved off to college, Mark compiled all of the advice he had given her into a book he titled Most Guys Are Losers. That book caught the attention of his daughter’s friends, then their moms found its way to a friend in the publishing business, and then through some fortuitous contacts, is where we find it today, premiering at Denver Film Festival!
I hadn’t seen it when I interviewed Mark, but now have. It’s a delight. The performances are uniformly great. It’s got a big, beating heart. And Keith David glowers at a kid when he doesn’t know who the ’85 Bears are. (“I don’t know all 85 of them…”). Overall, it’s a fun way to spend 90 minutes at home, and I highly encourage you to check it out. You can do so right here.
