Sun Roesslein is the newly appointed President of the Sports Field Management Association (SFMA), based right here in the Denver metropolitan area. SFMA is a non-profit dedicated to empowering and providing resources for the professionals who oversee sports fields at pro stadiums, universities, K-12 schools, and local parks and recreation facilities. These are the highly-trained individuals who ensure that every sports surface from Empower Field at Mile High to local softball diamonds are safe and aesthetically pleasing.
On this episode Sun shares with me how she got involved in this industry and why it’s become such a fulfilling career path for her. We talk all things sports field management from scheduling maintenance windows to dealing with unpredictable weather to technological advances including robot painters and GPS mapping. She also shares with me how they put those patterns into baseball outfields, and it’s not at all how I pictured them doing it. Incredible chat with a terrific and friendly professional.
You can find out more about the Sports Field Management on their website and on Twitter. Sun is also on Twitter here.
