Jenny Cavnar first caught my attention when I watched her do “Sportsfest” with my friend Chris Dittmer on CTV at Colorado State University. She has since gone on to a professional career in sports broadcasting that’s taken her to Los Angeles, Flint, MI, San Diego, and back home to Denver where she’s currently a broadcaster for the Colorado Rockies.
In 2018 Jenny was the first woman to do play-by-play for a Major League Baseball game in 25 years where she unveiled her now iconic home run call, “Fire up the fountains! She’s gone!” on a Nolan Arenado shot to left field. Here’s that video:
We discuss her career journey, if she ever envisioned working for her hometown team, the changing perception of women in sports broadcasting roles, and a ton more in a zippy 40-minute chat. I also ask her point blank if we’re going to have an MLB season this year. Jenny could not have been nicer or more insightful, and it’s my privilege to feature her on the show.
