Crystal Egli and Parker McMullen Bushman are the women behind Inclusive Journeys and the Digital Green Book Project. From their website, here’s a bit more about Inclusive Journeys and the Digital Green Book:
Inclusive Journeys is a tech company founded by two Black women with a mission to create data-driven, economic incentives for businesses to be more inclusive and welcoming, resulting in safer spaces for people of marginalized identities.
We are creating a digital platform where individual users can rate businesses and spaces on their customer service experience corresponding to the users’ specific identities (race, ability, gender, etc).Gathering this data will allow users to plan their travels and conduct business with peace of mind, provide businesses with the incentive and resources to recruit and retain a diverse customer base, and inform policy at the highest levels.
It’s an insanely cool project, and Parker and Crystal tell me all about its origins, their experiences simply existing in America as women of color, the importance of allies in helping create a society that’s more diverse, equitable and inclusive, and a lot more. It’s a show that was both incredibly fun to produce and gave me yet new insight into the experiences of those who are not straight, white, cis, able-bodied, married American dudes, distinctions that all come with a ton of privilege. Parker and Crystal are absolute forces of nature, have beauty in their hearts, and I’m confident this project is going to do great things for them.
But they cannot do it without you! No matter who you are, be a part of the first 5,000 people to beta test their new Digital Green Book when it goes live on June 19th. You can do that by signing up here: https://www.inclusivejourneys.com/beta.html
