A year ago last September I welcomed Kevin Batstone (left) and Arthur Rawe to the show. At the time, they were still fairly new to podcasting and I gave insight and counsel best I could. What a difference a year makes! These guys have grown their show remarkably, and were recently nominated for three Hoppy Awards through local Denver podcast institution House of Pod.
I thought of no better way of closing out this year that was at once pretty undeniably terrible by virtually any measure, and also probably the best year I’ve ever had on this show outside of 2017. It’s fun to watch people come into their own, and these guys have captured something special on their show. I had planned on having them on mostly to chit-chat and bullshit about the year that was, but I ended up asking them tough and pointy questions about growing a show. What happens if you get approached about being acquired? What about if a sponsor you don’t agree with throws tons of money at you?
Why am I like this? I’m not entirely sure, but after nearly seven years of asking polite but pointed questions at people, it’s the rhythm of the show I’m most comfortable with. They were great sports about it, and I think even they’d tell you they had a good time with me. I certainly enjoy their company, and the fact that we’ve now done a total of four shows together in a bit more than a year speaks for itself.
Links ahoy! Check out Discussion Combustion on their website, on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Patreon, and Teespring (for merch). I’m sure there are plenty of others, but if you’re so inclined, you’ll find ’em.
This show is available on iTunes, for streaming on Stitcher, and always at the homepage.
