“I’ve got a fever… and the only prescription is more Kyle Bell.”
You likely remember the Saturday Night Live skit with Christopher Walken as Bruce Dickinson coaching Blue Oyster Cult on how to punch up their song “Don’t Fear the Reaper” with more cowbell. Well, if you were in the stands at Hughes Stadium, you know the only prescription for your fever was more Kyle Bell. With more than 2,200 rushing yards in his tenure there, he was an absolute pleasure to watch on the field.
He joins me to discuss his journey from farm kid in Keenesburg, CO to state record holder for most rushing yards by a high school student to why he landed at Colorado State to his brief time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and beyond, Kyle is gracious, engaging, and just plain fun to listen to.
I’m fascinated by the life of a high performing athlete. It’s amazing to me the pressure on 17 and 18 year-old kids to make major life decisions during the recruiting process. I’m curious about how these kids handle all the attention heaped upon them when they do well, and when they stumble. And I’m most fascinated by the second act after an athlete’s career is over. What comes next?
Kyle shares with me insights about everything above, and also talks about the warmth and brilliance of Coach Sonny Lubick, his rapid ascent after a third ACL tear through one of the most notable car dealerships in Colorado, and what he’s up to now. Given his friendly and engaging demeanor, tireless work ethic, and warm heart, I know he’ll be successful in whatever he does.
Be sure to check out his LinkedIn page to see what he’s up to, and then connect with him. I know he’d love to meet you.
